Before this summer, I hadn't been to a wedding since I was 6. Then, all of a sudden, WHAM, I think I've been to 10 weddings this summer (assisting/second shooting/shooting etc). Haha, funny how life works out.

Anyway. Herman is actually the only son of one of our family friends. (Hm, hopefully that wasn't terribly convoluted..) He met Sinan at work, in Fort McMurray in Alberta! But his family was here, and hers live in China (and had to travel anyway), they decided to get married in Richmond- on a perfectly sunny and crisp late September date! I was super impressed by all their coworkers who also attended their wedding <3 So sweet.

On to the photos! (Get ready, because there are tons)

We didn't have a ton of time for portraits, b/c they had to prepare for the reception. But this one of them with balloons is too cute to pass up!

The moment of revelation:

This was a long wedding, but it was also FUN! So glad and grateful that I got to partake in Herman and Sinan's special day. Also, the sunny day was just perfect. It was a super fun wedding, especially since Herman and his dad are such comedians. All the best to the both of you! (Can't wait until they have kids!!)

I was supposed to assist/second shoot this wedding, but Jordana texted me at 5am, informing me that she was in the ER due to some gastrointestinal virus... We settled some details, and off I went, to cover this wedding solo (eep)! It was raining in the morning, and I was pretty nervous. But we definitely lucked out for the portraits. It would rain when we were getting from place to place, but the rain would let up when we arrive at a particular destination. It ended up being pretty awesome. Their ceremony was at a mosque- which was a first for me. Portraits at the mosque, Deer Lake Park, Gastown, near Canada Place, then finally the reception at the Executive Inn.

Courtney was my ex-coworker from Build-A-Bear ;D And she goes to the Arts Institute for Fashion Design and Merchandising. For her final project, she had to design a line of clothing, and make 3 outfits. She asked me to take pictures for her portfolio showing, which I gladly did! Her line was very cute, a little vintage inspired and really wearable.

The 3 dresses she chose to made were all made from satin and lace. My favourite one is the pink one with the short sleeves. I just think it's adorable!! I loved the others too though, don't get me wrong. Ah, pretty clothes. Courtney and I found 2 models, Tiffany and Mic, who were both adorable and fantastic to work with! We shot in Courtney's backyard/neighbourhood in Pitt Meadows, and her lawn was FRESHLY mowed. It was fantastic! Haha. We were worried for rain, but alas, the sun decided to grace us with its presence!! Awesome.

Two dresses. We had to be creative and photograph 3 dresses with 2 girls. My favourite dress is the one on the right.

Bah. So behind on blogging! That's what you get for taking 5 upper-level molecular biology courses, I guess. Blasted ambition! Oh well. Moving on. In early September, Krista and I got together and we did a portrait shoot! We wanted something 'lifestyle'-y. We thought, well, her home has gotta be lifestyle-esque or what not. :D

On to the photos!

Krista walking her puppy. She's an Italian Greyhound, and the cutest thing ever! It was definitely hard to get a picture of her though, since she was super hyper!

Back to their house! This shot was inspired by a magazine tear that Krista found! Yay, I love it when other people have ideas too.

This was also inspired by a magazine photo, I think. We combed Krista's house and found every little trinket we could :D Then artfully rearrange!

A series with fruits/vegetables! My favourite of the set is the orange one. Or maybe the apple. Yeah, I can't decide!

:) We picked this daisy from a bouquet that Krista had at her house. :] So pretty!

I love this one! Those are her salt/pepper shakers!! So fun.

It was a fun shoot, and it was really exciting drawing inspiration from magazines! Hopefully I did them justice. :]

On September 2nd, I also did a shoot with Devyn. It was pretty overcast, and I was worried about rain, but alas, the grey skies provided awesome even light. And when the sun came out towards the end of the shoot, we got some kiiiiller light! <3 light. These were at QE Park. She had 3 (!!) outfit changes. [I loved all her clothes... 2/3 outfits were bought in this vintage-y shop in NY... jeeealous]

Anyways, on to the photos. Pardon the large amount of photos! Hard to narrow down ;d

Some may say I overuse this pose too much, but I think it's really pretty!

I love it when hair swooshes. Until I can afford a portable, personal wind machine, I'll improvise!

This was near the duck pond. The willow tree was so beautiful, I couldn't pass it up!

Outfit change! Devyn had this super cool fascinator, and we found this cool wall (near the tennis courts).

Egggggg.

Ah! I love this. The attitude. And how Devyn actually climbed the fence! :D I was super impressed!

Outfit change again! (Well, minor change...) I still think Ralph Lauren should buy this photo off of me and use it in their ad campaign. [The sweater/beret are both RL] Devyn really rocked this one. AND this is when the sun started to poke its head out of the clouds. Looove.

Yep. Devyn really worked this. We made tennis so stylish!

Personal favourite. (Difficult to choose, but I narrowed it down..)

It was great, and I'm super grateful for the sun that came out at the end! Hooray. Thanks Devyn, for workin' it. GORGEOUS.

Back in early September, I had to opportunity to do a shoot with Danielle. We had a blast at Confederation Park, and I was in awe of how tall she is! (5'11", if memory serves me right). Haha, I have never felt so short in my life!

Yeah, in short, she is stunning! (These photos will prove that fact)

I love bokeh! So much!

There was a little skate park there too, so we utilized that! It was actually pretty steep. Easy to get in the pit; hard to get out.

Again, this is a long time ago ;D But Chryah and I got together and shot her in her old wedding dress :] She happened to be coming to Vancouver for a weekend, so we got together and made it work.

Chryah is amazing; seriously, there is nothing this girl wouldn't do. Climb in a tree? Sure. Sit on a fence? Done. Kick around a soccer ball? Yep. She was a sweetheart to work with :] And we had a blast!

Jason and Alina | Aug 20th

Jason is my old co-worker, and this is my SECOND (!!!) time shooting with them :) Alina and Jason got engaged earlier this year, and are getting hitched next July! But they love photos, and are taking a kajillion engagement photos. :3

They are super adorable and sweet together, with Jason being silly, and Alina loving his silliness. We shot at Ambleside in North (or West?) Vancouver. Is there anything better than sunset at a beach? Nope.

This totally reminds me of promotional posters for Asian dramas...

Sandra and Starsha | Aug 19th

Ah, I'm so behind in blogging! A MONTH ago, I had the opportunity to work with Sandra and Starsha (who is from Alberta!) for a wood-nymph concept! :D Their friend actually made/owned the cool headpieces that they are wearing.

For this shoot, we hiked into the mountain biking path up at SFU, and were passed several times by bikers. Haha, fortunately they were going too fast to stop and gawk.

Starsha is a photographer too, and had brought along her strobes, so we lit these using her strobes. I even got a mini-lesson out of the session too.

It was pretty awesome, since these girls were super adventurous and were willing to climb onto tree stumps and everything!

Sandra played the prince, and Starsha was the princess. This is my favourite close up shot of the set.

According to Starsha, the tree trunk isn't terribly comfortable to sit on :D (And those leg/arm ribbons KEPT sliding, haha. There were a LOT of readjustments...)

This is when the prince meets the princess. (Ugh, I still don't know how to upload in the right order. I guess I have to upload in the REVERSE order that I want them to appear on the page. Hm).

This was a FUN shoot! Even the mosquito bites and scratched (from branches/wild flora) were worth it! Thanks for braving it out with me (making me brave), S&S!! :D

Beat Ninjas | Aug 16th

I found the casting call for a photographer to photograph an up-and-coming local Hip Hop group: Beat Ninjas. I'm super flattered that I was chosen, and we had a blast! We shot around an old alley (that smelled a little funky), a nicer alley, and on the roof of a parkade! It was such a fun shoot, since they could do all these crazy tricks, haha.

MacBook Pro!

My trusty old HP laptop died. Well, it caught a virus, and then died. My dad was able to rescue it by re-installing, but I decided to bid my 3.5-year-old laptop farewell.

I have several very persuasive Mac-using friends. Upon hearing that I needed a new laptop came a flurry of comments on my Facebook wall raving about their MacBooks, and how I should get one.

There were a few factors, one of the big ones being that the "Buy a Mac and get a free iPod Touch" promo was still on, that caused me to eventually take the plunge.

So now, I did it! I made the leap. I'm a (brand-new) Mac user, and I'm proud of it! I got the 13" MacBook Pro, with 160G of HD and 4G of RAM. :) I decided to splurge on the extra RAM. :D

*The screen is amazing. So much sharper/clearer/crisper than my old one. I already want the 24" LED Cinema Display! And it's so fast! The time needed for photos to render in Lightroom is significantly cut down :D :D :D *

Katie and Carlos | August 15th

Katie and Carlos (my couple from the previous post) got married on Aug 15th at the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course! :D I was lucky enough to share this day with them. It was forecasted for 40% rain, but we lucked out and the weather held out for us. It even got sunny right after the ceremony before we did portraits at Burnaby Mountain Park! They are moving back to France in less than a week, so I edited like mad, and will be able to give them their images before they leave. It was a super fantastic day on the 15th, and I'm super pleased with the Vancouver weather!!

:/ All these images are BACKWARDS (from the order that I uploaded them in). Sorry about that. Haha. The beginning of the day is actually at the end of this post. [still haven't quite figured out how to upload properly right in Blogspot...]

Katie and Carlos | July 22nd

I had the pleasure of taking engagement photos of one of my best friends from high school, Katie, and her husband, Carlos. They had gotten married in France already (he's from there), but they've recently come back home to prepare for an August ceremony in Vancouver [which I will be shooting!]. We went to Burnaby Mountain Park, on the night of fireworks, so there were lots of people there. They are super sweet together, and I'm a little bit jealous that they are both moving to France after their ceremony here! Hopefully I'll get the opportunity to visit them!

Alison | July 10th

I went on a photoshoot with Alison on Friday. After picking out her wardrobe and everything, her mom actually invited me to eat dinner with them. Haha. So strange. It was good though! After that, we wandered around her neighbourhood looking for cool places to shoot. We even had a few wardrobe changes.

We saw this very cool old, broken bike. Of course, I had to snap a photo of it!

I realize now that none of my photos are in chronological order. Oh well. This was towards the end, when it started getting dark. We found a cool tunnel with a lot of graffiti!

I love, love, love the evening light! (And little jumps) I like odd things. This is pretty FANTASTIC!

Alison wanted a photo of her sitting in the middle of the street. I was more than happy to oblige. Of course, we both were looking out for cars!

I think this is my favourite from the day. A series shot of see/hear/speak no evil.

Jenny | July 5th

Once I heard that Jenny had a darn sweet crinoline/petticoat, I kneeeew we had to use it during her shoot! :D This was the first time that I got to help pick out someone's wardrobe! It was pretty exciting. Like playing dress up- but for a person. (This must be what stylists do!)

We went to shoot by False Creek, right around where the Olympic Village is being built. I had no idea that there was such awesome little piers/benches there. (And super new too!) Not to mention, a pretty stellar view of Vancouver!

Jenny is super awesome, and I've known her for 2-ish years! She also had the awesome Betty Paige-inspired bangs. That, of course, had to be paired with RED lips! Yay. Enough rambling- on to the photos!

Sandra | June 30th

I shot Sandra with my friend Flo. Since he had a vintage-looking suitcase, we thought that a retro shoot would be pretty fantastical.

I have previously worked with Sandra before, so it was pretty awesome to work with her again! Yay.

Right after my shoot with Haylee, I had an engagement shoot with Jason and Alina. I know Jason from my old co-op job from 2006. Him and Alina's wedding is in 2010, but they've been doing so many engagement sessions. (That's what happens when you have a lot of photographer friends!!)

I had a quick shoot with Haylee, who is Oliver's almost-3-years-old niece. I knew we'd hit it off right away since her favourite colour was ALSO pink AND she had a bow in her hair. We were destined to become besties!! She was also just super cool, and smiley.

I <3 California

I am a proud Canadian, but I must say that I love, love, love California! :D I was lucky enough to be there for 3 weeks in May for an extended vacation. Super thankful to all my friends who housed me/hung out with me for that time. I have just recently started/finished editing the photos that I like from the trip, and I wanted to post some here! :]

This is a giraffe from the San Diego Zoo. I caught him when he was chewing. Haha.

A peacock, also at the San Diego Zoo. He was glorious.

Super adorable seal flippers <3. We found a lot of seals on the beach in La Jolla.

I called this photo "Love Birds." But I know they're just sea gulls. I think they're adorable. (Except when they poop on people).

The following photo was taken with my friend's wide-angle lens. (I forgot which one it was though...) I was creeping on a random couple who happened to be at the Cliffs. :D

This is underneath the pier in La Jolla. I had never been under a pier until this.

This almost sums up my 3 week vacation. I really love it there. I think it's all the sand, ocean and sun. (And of course, the happiest place on Earth!) I am seriously contemplating moving there after I graduate. I think I would really like it there!

Ruby | June 13th

A total last minute shoot. :] Ruby told me she had a Juliet-inspired dress, and off we went to find the greenest part of Burnaby.

And Ruby also let me sneak into her house for a couple quick shots. This one by the window made the photo look incredibly vintage- and awesome.

We went outside again. I was on my belly in the grass for a fair bit of time that day. ;] I love, love, love the little yellow flowers!

Ruby insisted that she is such a tomboy. And to prove it, she climbed into this little creek and kicked water up.

I have recently realized that I adore profiles. I don't really know why, but I always take a few on every shoot.

A little problem I had when editing, as noticed, is that I couldn't get my stamp on all the images. I edited these in Lightroom using some presets I downloaded (www.presetsheaven.com), then exported the images. I then opened them in Photoshop, and I just couldn't save some of them after stamping with my name. Maybe it's the presets? I have no idea. I just left it for now. Maybe I won't use presets next time. (But I like how they turn out!)

Portrait Session:

graduation, family, engagement, couple, children, babies, headshots, just-because

90 minute session
$200 (either cash or personal cheque, due on the day of the shoot)
Location: Any location in the Lower Mainland (your home, local park, beach etc.)
I primarily use natural light, so I prefer outdoor locations. Or window light if we're shooting indoors
No limit of number of shots taken
You will get 20 fully edited photos at full resolution (as digital negatives) to do whatever your heart pleases :]
A model release will be signed on the day of the shoot (parent/guardian will need to sign if you are under 18 yrs old)

I am currently a student majoring in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry at Simon Fraser University. You might wonder how does that relate to photography at all. In fact, it doesn't. :]

For me, photography has always been a passion. Ever since I was 8 and received my first camera, I have been hooked. It wasn't until early 2008 before I became heavily involved with photography again.

As a very outgoing, people-person, I strive to make every shoot as comfortable for you as possible- all while creating amazing images that you can cherish forever. I would absolutely love to meet you and capture a small portion of your incredible life.
